Equine Massage Therapy
Courses & Training
We all know that love makes the world go round! If you’re a horse person, you can put out your hand and help spin the globe a little longer, by choosing a career in the amazingly rewarding industry of equine sports massage and horse massage therapy! For many people, it isn’t dogs that are man’s best friend … it’s horses! Equine massage therapy is a way for you to give back to these gentle, loyal and affectionate animals, both physically and emotionally. You can make massage for horses a business, or make it a personal thank you to your equine companion. Equine massage therapy can also facilitate better relationships between horses and their owners, improving behaviour and bettering performance in whatever the horse does, from racing to gymkhana to trail riding … or just being a friend.
Horse massage for Horse & Rider
As a business owner, you’ll be entering a niche and highly sought-after industry. As a horse owner, you’ll simply be saving yourself thousands. Here’s how the equine massage therapy course runs!
Courses Structure
Our equine sports massage course gives future horse massage therapists an excellent grounding in both theoretical and practical aspects of the discipline. You’ll learn about the science, the application, the communication and the business of horse massage therapy, in order to do your best for your equine clients! The intensive 3-day equine massage therapists course covers the following:A main emphasis is made on the application of massage techniques; massage strokes, and the Equissage cycle. We practice on your extremely grateful Equine volunteers. Trainees will study:
- the essential anatomy and physiology of muscles and each of their functions.
- the essential anatomy of the horse as it pertains to massage as well as problems that can be relieved by massage.
- and be taught to be aware of precise conditions that could affect the horse if those muscles become tender, pulled, fatigued, tense, strained or not sufficiently nourished through blood and lymphatic circulation.
- business practices and marketing your services.
Become an Equine Massage Therapist
When you become an equine massage therapist, you will be helping horses to:
- heal common conditons like haematomas, pulled ligaments, swellings, breathing/coughing/ bleeding problems, food/joint/tendon problems;
- Stimulate circulation to the areas massaged, helping promote more rapid conditioning as well as more rapid general healing, dispersing fibrinogen and lactic acid accumulations;
- release tension, both physical and mental, aid in digestion and stimulate liver and kidney functions.
- fix behavioural problems including skittishness, being too headstrong, and ’selective hearing’!
Those are only a tiny selection of the benefits of massage for horses. It’s amazingly rewarding being able to spend your days giving back to the gentle creatures that allow you much freedom, so much understanding, and so much trust. Once you have qualified, you will also need liability insurance to work in the industry to ensure you’re covered to work on your client’s horses.
